Before General Anesthesia
Prior to your dental surgery you will have the opportunity to address any concerns you might have during your pre-op appointment. We encourage you to ask questions and make us aware of any fears you might have. Our main goal is to create a secure, comfortable environment for our patients on the day of surgery so the more you communicate with us, the easier we can accommodate your needs. The following guidelines are meant to serve as reminders in helping you prepare for your dental surgery. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our practice.
- Fasting must begin at midnight the night before surgery. Do NOT eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the night before surgery. Unless specifically directed otherwise by us, please take all your regular medications as usual, even on the morning of your surgery, with a very small sip of water to help you swallow your pills.
- You must have a responsible adult to accompany you. Your escort must remain at the office during your surgery and care for you for the remainder of the day. Also, for the entire day of surgery, you are not to drive or undertake other activities that require concentration and coordination. If medical transport is needed plans for transportation must be approved prior to procedure.
- No alcohol, no smoking/vaping, and no marijuana or other drugs for 24 hours before your surgery.
- Clean your mouth and teeth well prior to surgery to help prevent infection.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing (short sleeve shirt).
- Please remove all nail polish and/or acrylic gel from both index fingers.
